Young Carers Action Day

Today (Wednesday 12 March) is Young Carers Action Day, an annual event which is organised and led by Carers Trust. The day aims to encourage organisations, communities and individuals raise awareness of young carers.
A young carer is someone aged under 18 who cares for a friend or family member who, due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction needs additional help in their day to day life. According to the 2021 census there are 120,000 young carers in England and in Sandwell we currently support over 200 young carers.
Young carers face a huge array of challenges as a result of their caring role, and the Action Day provides an opportunity for everyone to call for better support for young carers and young adult carers, and to bring about change.
You can find out more about the support we give to our Young Carers by visiting the Sandwell Young Carers website.
