Foster Carer Celebration
We held our annual Foster Carers Celebration at The Hawthorns yesterday and it was lovely to see many of our mainstream and connected carers there.
The theme for the day was ‘wellbeing’ and we were joined by 3 speakers who provided some very insightful information which carers told us they connected with regarding their own experiences.
One of the speakers, John Stanbridge is a former foster carer and is now a judge. Andrew Whitehouse spoke openly about his diagnosis of ADHD and provided the audience with some humorous stories, yet with some serious messages that everyone could resonate with.
The event concluded with a mindfulness session led by Lisa Corcoran. Lisa provided some helpful information regarding self-care and the meditation session was a real success.
The star of the day was one of our care experienced young adults who took to the stage to tell everyone about himself, his background and his culture. He shared his experiences about the people who have cared for him through the years. His foster carers were in the audience and he made sure that they were recognised for the fantastic care that they continue to provide to him.
There weren’t many dry eyes in the room and it was a standout moment.
