Sandwell Supported Lodgings

Supported lodgings is when you share your home with a young person, giving them an opportunity to live in a safe, family environment where they can gain more independence and learn to live on their own.

As a supported lodgings provider, you will provide a young person with practical skills such as cooking, cleaning and budgeting which they will need when they move into independence. By welcoming a young person into your home, you can provide emotional support and help them learn the everyday practical skills they will need for adult life.

  • Do you have a spare room?
  • Can you relate to young people and their lives?
  • Do you like having young people around?
  • Would you like to make a positive difference in a young person’s life?

If you answered YES then supported lodgings might just be for you. As long as you’re committed to helping a young person to realise their potential, you could be what we are looking for and we would love to hear from you.

Sandwell Supported Lodging Scheme needs supported lodging providers to help young people between the ages of 16-21. There are all types of young people who need supported lodgings in Sandwell. You will get to meet them before offering a place in your home, so you can be sure that they’re a good match for you.

Young people may need a place to live because:

  • They are leaving foster care but aren’t ready to live on their own
  • Their family situation has changed
  • They have mental health issues or want to learn to manage their behaviour
  • They have learning difficulties so may find it difficult to live on their own
  • They are unaccompanied asylum seekers

As a Supported Lodgings Provider, you will receive access to financial support and training:

  • On-going regular support from our Accommodation Officers.
  • A weekly fee plus additional contributions that the young person pays.
  • The young person will have their own social worker or personal Advisor
  • Training opportunities.

It depends on your total taxable income.

Your payment should be added to your taxable income for the year, so you will have to pay income tax if your total taxable income is greater than your tax allowances.
