A cracking effort  – Easter egg donations

Sandwell Council staff and councillors have been generously donating Easter eggs for local disadvantaged children and young people.

More than 1,300 eggs have been donated and are now being distributed by social workers to children in Sandwell.

Sandwell Council's repairs team used some of their Nectar points accumulated by buying fuel for their fleet vehicles to buy 400 eggs.

Jan Britton, Chief Executive, Sandwell Council, said: "I was amazed to see there were so many eggs - they had to be moved from an office to our loading bay as we ran out of room.

"Thank you to all those who donated Easter eggs. It's great to see that people really care about our young people and want to see them treated to a bit of chocolate this Easter.

Frances Craven, Chief Executive, Sandwell Children's Trust, said: "The idea came from a suggestion from member of staff following the success of OUR appeal for Christmas presents last year.

"Once again, we are overwhelmed by people's generosity and our staff have been busy making sure they get to children and young people in time for Easter.

"Thank you so much to everyone and I’m sure the Easter eggs will be very much appreciated by those who receive them."
